The first lung transplantation in the Czech Republic was performed on December 22, 12, and the program for lung transplantation in the Czech Republic was launched. This center is the only one that performs lung transplants in the Czech Republic.
Lung transplantation is mainly indicated for the following diagnoses:
> COPD
> Pulmonary fibrosis
> Cystic fibrosis
> Lymphangioleiomyomatosis
> Idiopathic pulmonary hypertension
As part of the program are implemented
> Bilateral and unilateral lung transplants
> Lung lobe transplantation (lobar transplantation)
> Retransplantation
> Ex vivo perfusion and reconditioning of the lungs
Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) is used when needed before transplantation as a bridge to transplantation, during transplantation, and prolonged after transplantation if necessary.
As part of the program for adult patients, transplants are performed on pediatric patients.
The center is one of the high-volume centers, with only 40 centers performing more than 8 transplants a year in Europe.
