Spinal Cord Unit Prague
The Spinal Cord Unit, a division of the Department of Rehabilitation and Sports Medicine at the 2nd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University and University Hospital Motol was founded on June 22, 2004. The mission of the department is to provide comprehensive medical, rehabilitative, and nursing care for patients with spinal cord lesions. Patients who are treated in the spinal cord unit include those with stabilized vital functions in sub-acute stages of spinal cord lesions as well those who require follow-up care and/or procedures are hospitalized here. An outpatient clinic, a part of the spinal cord unit, takes care of the follow-up procedures for patients.
The spinal cord unit has 16 beds, of which 3 are for intermediate-care. It is equipped with non-barrier bathrooms and toilets, two fitness centres, and common-room.
Our spinal cord team is made up of 4 doctors specializing in neurology, orthopaedics, and rehabilitation; 6 physiotherapists, 1 occupational therapist, 12 nurses, 4 assistants, a social worker, a psychologist, and spiritual care workers.
We also work together closely with specialists in the field of spine surgery, urology, internal medicine, orthopaedics, pneumology, plastic surgery, and psychiatry.
