The Children's Psychiatric Clinic deals with the diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders in children and adolescents up to 18 years of age. It is the only clinical institution in the field of child psychiatry in the Czech Republic. Children under 6 years of age are accepted accompanied by one of the parents. Depending on the type of disease or disorder, the clinic accepts patients from all over the country. The department is focused on comprehensive pedopsychiatric care, both outpatient and inpatient, in the entire biopsychosocial spectrum, with specialized programs in the field of psychology and psychotherapy. The clinic is known mainly for its results in the diagnosis and treatment of autism spectrum disorders, eating disorders, psychotic illnesses and childhood suicidality. The most modern approaches to biological and psychotherapeutic treatment of psychiatric diseases are applied in treatment. Some doctors and psychologists at the clinic are also forensic experts in the field of child and adolescent psychiatry, and the clinic is commissioned to prepare review forensic expert opinions. The clinic is also a teaching base for teaching psychiatry of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague.

The Children's Psychiatric Clinic has 50 beds and is divided into three departments. The smallest ward with ten beds is focused on diagnostics and intensive therapy, and it is possible to provide the patient with constant supervision as needed. The two large wards have twenty beds each and are designed for patients in a stable condition. On them, hospital beds are replaced by couches. In all departments, children spend a lot of time in the common room, which is equipped with various games, a TV and a DVD player. Unlike other inpatient departments of the hospital, the course of the day at the Children's Psychiatric Clinic is more reminiscent of a stay at school in nature. Children have a regular daily and weekly schedule. They get up at seven o'clock in the morning and half past seven on the weekend. After the morning hygiene, a therapeutic community meeting and breakfast take place. The children spend the morning at school under the guidance of special pedagogues from the Primary School at the Motol University Hospital. High school children can take part in, for example, foreign language lessons or self-study. Older children are also offered morning occupational therapy, art therapy and music therapy. After lunch, other therapeutic activities take place, such as individual and group psychotherapy, practice of relaxation techniques and others. If the health condition allows, the regime also includes a stay in the garden or a walk around the hospital. Children can communicate with their parents via their mobile phone. In a stable state, weekend passes to the home environment or, for example, visits to the relevant primary or secondary schools are also a regular part of the treatment.
