Hospitalization
During hospitalization at the Children's Cardiocenter, patients are admitted according to their current state of health to the inpatient ward or to the JIRP (Intensive and Resuscitation Care Unit - a highly specialized department where doctors and nurses provide children with demanding professional treatment and care at the highest level).
Bed department - contact
- nurses' office - 2 2443 2931
- patient reception - 2 2443 2969 (information Mon - Fri, 13:00 - 15:00)
JIRP
- nurses' office – 2 2443 2970, 2 2443 2973
Invitation to hospitalization
If the child is accepted for the planned treatment, the family usually receives a written invitation 10 days in advance. This invitation contains detailed information about all necessary pre-operative examinations and the conditions of hospital stay.
However, if this information is not sufficient for you, contact the income office by phone. It may also happen that you will be invited to the hospital by phone. In this case, the intake nurse will explain everything necessary to you during the phone call.
The operation of the department is governed by the "house rules", which are available in each bed room.
Accommodation of parents in the inpatient ward
If parents wish to accompany their child in the hospital and take care of them together with medical professionals, we always try to make it possible for them. However, our inpatient department only has a few folding chairs available for parents/accompaniment to sleep. For operational and hygienic reasons, it is necessary for him to take care of a hospitalized child (regardless of the child's age). only one parent/guardian throughout the day, it is possible to alternate parents (according to the needs of the family). Parents '/ escorts' sleeping in the intensive care unit is prohibited.
Another possibility of accommodation in FN Motol
- Hostel - mostly multi-bed rooms, shared bathroom, kitchenette. It is a cheaper option of accommodation (200, - or 400, - CZK / night), is must be submittedissued by the ward where the child is being treated. Breastfeeding mothers can make use of the better-equipped rooms with bathroom and refrigerator.
- Hotel type accommodation - The hotel is located in the same building as the hostel, only it has its own separate reception. The parents arrange their own accommodation here, there is no need to submit a request. This is accommodation for a commercial price.
More information:
Course of hospital stay
Operation – in this case, it is necessary to take into account that the parent's stay in the hospital has several phases:
We usually admit the patient the day before the planned operation so that all the necessary examinations can be carried out and the family can be given the necessary information. One of the parents can spend the night in the ward or in the hospital dormitory (by agreement, both) and accompany the child to the operating theater the following day.
Morning in day of surgery (after the child leaves for the operating room) the accompanying parent packs his and the child's personal belongings and goes home (becomes a visit). After the operation, the children are placed on JIRP, where parents can visit them by appointment with the doctor.
The next stage will occur after the child's health has stabilized. Parents can participate in the care after agreement with the staff.
The last stage of hospitalization is convalescence child in the inpatient ward. Here, the same rules apply to parents as at JIRP. The only difference is that some parents can sleep, if we have free folding chairs, directly in the children's rooms.
Catheterization procedure (examination, treatment, ablation) - the parent takes care of the child all day throughout the hospitalization (mostly 2-3 days) in the inpatient ward, exceptionally in the JIRP.
Information on parents' meals
Parents accepted to accompany the child have their meals covered by the insurance company. Every morning, they receive meal vouchers for the FNM canteen (food is brought to the ward only for patients). At the appointed time, they hand the child over to the nurse and leave to eat.
Parents of children over the age of six eat on their own. They can use the services of the company canteen (cash payment), or the network of shops and bistros on the hospital premises. It is not possible to warm up the delivered party in the ward.
Personal belongings and valuables
The hospital provides children with everything they need – food, medicine, diapers, potty, dining chair, stroller, toys, clothes, blankets, etc. It is therefore not necessary to take many things with you. There is very limited storage space in the department. During hospitalization, it is not possible to store a stroller or a car seat in the ward, so it is necessary to take them home after admission to the ward.
Parents – light home clothes (several variants, parents cannot wash things), change of shoes, pyjamas, hygiene items, personal medication.
Babies and smaller children – wet wipes for the bottom, a breast pump (we may have a limited number to borrow), favorite toys, etc. If the child is used to only one type of pacifier, milk bottle or pacifier, take them as well.
Older children – pajamas or comfortable home clothes, slippers, hygiene items, towel, favorite toy, book, pillow, etc.
If you take a mobile phone, electronics, jewellery, large sums of money or valuable clothes with you to the hospital, you do so at your own risk.
Visits
For operational and hygienic reasons, only one parent can stay in the ward with a hospitalized child; other relatives fall into the visiting category.
Visiting hours they are in weekdays from 14:00 to 20:00. With regard to other patients, they can be with the child at the same time two people at most. In the rooms of small children, it is necessary to respect the privacy of nursing mothers. Children under the age of 15 are prohibited from entering the inpatient ward and JIRP due to the risk of transmission of childhood infectious diseases.
Na intensive care and resuscitation unit entry is allowed only to the child's parents; visits only in very exceptional cases, in agreement with the attending physician.
Parking
It can be used during the child's hospitalization free parking in the hospital premises on the basis of a document issued by the revenue office. Free parking is not available for visitors.
Other hospital services
There are several grocery stores (including delicatessen and vegetables), a clothing store, a flower shop, a hairdresser, a cafe, several ATMs, a children's book and toy store, and a newsagent's on the hospital grounds. There are also medical supplies and several pharmacies.
Also located here (in the adult section) Space of silence – a place reserved for meditation, religious services and other spiritual activities provided by the hospital clergy. More information: www.fnmotol.cz/prakticke-informace/poskytovani-spiritualni-pece

Medevac
Since 1999, the FNM Children's Cardio Center has participated in the MEDEVAC program implemented by the Ministry of the Interior, which serves the humanitarian evacuation of disabled residents from war-affected areas. The program is mainly intended for seriously ill children, for whom it is not possible to provide treatment in local conditions, and treatment in the Czech Republic will save their life or significantly improve its quality. As part of the program, we treated children from Iraq, Kosovo, Kenya, Afghanistan, Cambodia, Syria, Libya, Burma and Pakistan. The doctors of the Children's Cardiocenter participate in a number of charitable missions abroad.
Mater Hospital Nairobi
Since 2011, doctors and nurses from the Children's Heart Center have been helping with the diagnosis and treatment of children with congenital heart defects in Kenya. The Mater Hospital in Nairobi has long been striving for the availability of cardiac surgical treatment even for the poorest children in the country. All of our experts have waived their fees for their work in the project to make the treatment of these children possible.
