Department of Ophtalmology, 2nd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Prague and Motol University Hospital
Ophthalmology Clinic of Children and Adults of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine and Teaching Hospital Motol in Prague provides preventive care in the field of ophthalmology throughout the age range from birth to late sowing. Especially in the field of pediatric ophthalmology, the clinic acts as a super-conscious workplace with a long tradition and, in the context of the largest children's hospital in the Czech Republic, also represents a center of rich interdisciplinary cooperation.
In 2005, the 5-year effort of nationwide introduction of Congenital Cataract Screening in the Czech Republic as part of the NPV MZČR project culminated. Comprehensive care for children with congenital cataract (principal investigator Doc. MUDr. A. Filouš, CSc.). Neonatology departments of more than 100 maternity hospitals in the Czech Republic were gradually equipped to carry out screening, including methodological sheets and examinations became compulsory for each newborn. Practical training of the equipment of the red reflex in the newborn pupil for the representatives of all neonatology departments was organized in close cooperation with the Neonatal Department with the JIRP FN Motol. Most newborns with congenital cataracts are sent for surgery and subsequent long-term comprehensive care at the Ophthalmology Clinic of Children and Adults at Motol University Hospital, where the project continues to improve treatments. In this way, we are not only fulfilling the demands of the EU where screening of inborn cataracts is recommended in a number of countries, but also one of the priorities of the WHO Vision 2020 initiative aimed at eliminating removable blindness.
The service provided by the Ophthalmology Clinic of the Ophthalmology Clinic is also provided by the EMERGENCY SERVICE for acute conditions (eye injuries, acute eye pain, sudden vision deterioration) for both children and adults, out of the ordinary ambulance hours on weekdays from 15:30 until 8:00 am the next day, all 24 hours on weekends and holidays.
