Modernization and renewal of the equipment of the complex cardio center of the University Hospital in Motol - children's part

Brief description of the project: The Motol Children's Cardiac Center is the only workplace in the Czech Republic specializing in complex operations for congenital heart defects in children from birth to 18 years of age. Thanks to this status, the Motol hospital received a subsidy from the European Union for the acquisition of three exceptional devices. Of the total amount of almost 80 million crowns, the European Regional Development Fund provided an amount of 57 million crowns. The aim of the project, co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund, was to ensure and improve quality medical care and achieve European standards within the Children's Cardiac Center of the University Hospital in Motol and modernize technical and instrumentation.

As part of this project, FN Motol acquired two angiographic lines and an echocardiograph. Monoplanar angioline is used to treat mainly vascular disorders in children from one day to 18 years of age. These include treatment of cerebral and other malformations, embolic and thrombotic vascular complications, interventions in oncology patients and interventions on transplanted organs. The two-projection angiocardiographic device is used for detailed diagnostic and therapeutic catheterization procedures in newborns, infants and children with congenital heart disease. Diagnostic cardiac catheterizations are performed mainly in patients with the most complex congenital heart defects. The two-projection angiographic device reduces the amount of contrast agent administered and increases the detail of the examination. Echocardiography (ECHO) is an ultrasound examination method that allows cardiac anatomy and function to be assessed without surgery to determine the type and details of a heart defect. At the Children's Cardiac Center, ECHO allows about XNUMX percent of children who have to undergo heart surgery to replace previously necessary cardiac catheterization and angiocardiography, which are still at risk and expose the child to ionizing radiation. The method is also used for the diagnosis of heart defects in the prenatal period. Early detection of a defect in pregnancy makes it possible to organize births of children with severe heart defects from all over the Czech Republic at the University Hospital in Motol and thus increases their chances of successful surgery.
