Our Our Transplant Unit has been serving children with hematopoietic malignancies (leukemia, lymphomas), congenital or acquired disorders of hematopoiesis, immunity or metabolism since 1989, and children with solid tumors from all over the Czech Republic. Over 30 transplants from family and unrelated donors from the registry have been performed on more than 900 children in our country for more than 850 years.
As the only workplace in the country, we perform hematopoietic stem cell transplantation of our own (autologous) and foreign (allogeneic), from family or unrelated donors.
In the years 1989–2020, hundreds of children underwent allogeneic or autologous transplantation in our unit with various types of diagnoses.
Modern technical equipment and professional staff, as well as a comprehensive transplant program with follow-up dispensary care corresponds to the level of the world's transplant centers and competently meets the needs of children from all over the country.
Our workplace is accredited for cooperation with European and American registries of bone marrow donors. As part of international studies, we cooperate with a number of workplaces in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Great Britain, France, Switzerland, Poland and other countries on several continents. In addition, in 2019 it successfully passed the accreditation procedure in JACIE system (European transplant company EBMT) as a comprehensive children 's transplant center (together with the recently built Apheresis Center within FNM blood bank department).
Our transplant unit includes 10 fully air-conditioned boxes with a three-phase hepa-filter filter device. Each box is equipped with a state-of-the-art monitoring system and nursing technology, as well as its own TV, video player and internet connection.
The team caring for young patients from infancy to adolescence includes not only professionally trained nurses and pediatricians specializing in hematooncology. We work closely with specialists in the field of pediatric surgery, cardiology, orthopedics, endocrinology, anesthesiology, radiology, etc. We also work with a number of highly specialized laboratories that use state-of-the-art diagnostic methods to detect residual disease, donor hematopoiesis, immune system recovery, virus activity, etc.
Psychologists, social nurses, diet nurses and rehabilitation workers take care of children and their families. We offer all parents, regardless of the child's age, the possibility of one-day presence of one family member in the child's room. A common room, changing rooms and sanitary facilities are available at our unit for escorts. The stay of the parents in the child's room overnight is not possible due to operational reasons - the patient's escort can use the accommodation in the above-standard equipped dormitory rooms in the hospital complex.
