History and present

ESTABLISHMENT AND DEVELOPMENT OF THE FIELD

The current form of the field of pediatric hematology and oncology in our country has been forming for several decades.

Two separate fields - hematology and oncology - originally focused on the care of children with cancer. With the intention of improving the diagnosis and treatment of pediatric patients in accordance with global trends, a separate certification field called "pediatric hematology and oncology" was established in the Czech Republic in 2009.

HISTORY OF CLINICS

Our clinic was established in 1983 as a workplace dealing with the diagnosis and treatment of children with cancer. In 2004, it was merged with the Department of Pediatric Hematology II. of the Motol Children's Clinic and the new Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology have thus become the largest center for the treatment of pediatric malignancies in the Czech Republic.

CHILDREN'S HEMATOLOGY AND ONCOLOGY TODAY

The care of pediatric patients with cancer is centralized in the Czech Republic in eight specialized centers. Mutual cooperation of these workplaces within Pediatric Hematooncology Working Group (PSDH) and coordination of treatment with a number of foreign centers has made the care of sick children in our country more effective.

THE CURRENT FORM OF OUR CLINIC

Our clinic includes several wards, including the ICU and the bone marrow transplant unit, a day hospital, a number of specialized clinics, laboratories and a research center.
