Home mode

During the oncological treatment, your child will spend time in the home environment.

How to behave? What regime should a child implement?

The home regime follows similar principles as staying at the clinic. It is necessary to provide the child with an environment with the least possible risk of infection and thus prevent infectious complications of treatment.

Patients during treatment for acute leukemia, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and bone marrow transplant patients are most susceptible to infections.

School

It is necessary to limit the child's stay in a larger group of people. For this reason, it is not possible to continue compulsory schooling. In good health, your child can start an individual study plan in agreement with the class teacher and in cooperation with school FN Motol

More people, more risk

For the above reasons, we do not recommend visiting theaters, cinemas, shopping malls, public swimming pools, or traveling by public transport. In the family, it is advisable to limit the number of visits to the next of kin. Postpone visits by loved ones suffering from acute illnesses (colds, flu, diarrheal diseases and others).

Hand washing

Washing your hands is a prerequisite for minimizing contact with the infection. Small skin abrasions are also risky for our patients, which can heal poorly during acute treatment or lead to the development of more severe inflammation.

Walks

It is not forbidden to take a child out in home care. However, it should not visit places with a higher concentration of people. Despite the seemingly good physical condition, the patient is often and more tired in oncological treatment, and therefore long trips are not suitable. A shorter walk to the forest or park is optimal.

Strava

We will introduce you to the low-bacterial diet in detail during the first hospitalization. Its principles should also be observed in home care. It is necessary to exclude foods with a high risk of mold and bacteria and uncooked food. Due to the risk of infection transmission, we recommend drinking bottled water and bottled beverages. Checking the expiration date of purchased packaged products is a matter of course.

  • More information about a low-bacterial diet can be found in the overview table.

Pets

We do not recommend that your child actively pet a pet. Under no circumstances should he come into contact with his feces or saliva. However, it is not necessary to move the pet to which the child is accustomed.

Keeping order

At home, the principles of normal order should be followed, no special environmental disinfection or air purification is required. However, under no circumstances should construction work take place at home during the child's stay, which increases the dustiness of the air and the risk of mold.

Vaccination

The child must not be vaccinated during cancer treatment. After the end of the treatment, we carry out an antibody check and possible supplementation of the vaccination in cooperation with the Motol University Vaccination Center.
