History of the Department of Rehabilitation dates back to 1962 when the Department of Sports Medicine was founded (within the Department of Paediatrics FDL). Also rehabilitation had developed within this department as at that time it did not exist as a separate field. Our department at that time was attended by Prof. MUDr. Václav Vojta who was developing rehabilitation of children with infant paralysis. The separate central rehabilitation department was founded after the Clinic for children was moved to Motol in 1969. This rehabilitation department was afterwards headed for almost 20 years by Prof. MUDr. Miloš Máček. He introduced especially respiratory disease physiotherapy to the clinic. He acquainted with this method during his research stay in France. The Department of Rehabilitation was officially founded on 1st June 1988 and Doc. MUDr. Jan Javůrek, who headed the department before, was appointed the senior consultant. Between 1992 and 1999 the department was headed by Prof. MUDr. Miroslav Kučera. In 1999, Prof. PaeDr. Pavel Kolář was appointed the senior consultant.
