Basic information
The gynecology-obstetrics clinic provides care in the entire field of gynecology and obstetrics and has a long-standing tradition of providing health services in all existing specializations in the field of gynecology and obstetrics. The clinic has a long tradition in the gynecology of children and adolescents, and within this specialization it focuses mainly on surgical correction of various congenital defects of the uterus and vagina. The clinic also has an oncology center which, in cooperation with other clinics of our hospital, provides comprehensive treatment for women with cancer of the reproductive organs. The clinic's doctors are also dedicated to the surgical correction of prolapse of gynecological organs and the diagnosis and treatment of urinary incontinence, using both surgical and non-surgical methods. The provision of minimally invasive surgical treatment using laparoscopic and hysteroscopic methods is a matter of course. A great advantage of the clinic is the possibility of operating on patients using a modern surgical robot. The gynecology-obstetrics clinic is a recognized perinatological center with a very modern delivery room, which consists of separate delivery rooms with their own social equipment. Comprehensive care for extremely immature newborns with regional and national scope is an integral part of the provided health services. Around 3.000 babies are born at the clinic every year. Clinic doctors are also involved in teaching students of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University, as well as in research and scientific work. Clinic staff participated in a Czech study of experimental uterus transplantation in the treatment of absolute uterine factor infertility, which in 2019 was crowned with the first two obstetric successes. An email address can be used for non-acute gynecological consultations gynecology@fnmotol.cz, where we will try to answer you depending on the complexity of your questions and the time available for our specialists.
The clinic is located on the 5th floor of the adult hospital building. The outpatient tract is located between nodes A and D, where most of the clinic's specialized outpatient clinics are located. The Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology Outpatient Clinic and the Gynecology Oncology Outpatient Clinic are located on the ground floor near Node D. All inpatient wards are located on Nodes B and C. There are well-used superior single rooms available on each ward. All departments are staffed by an experienced and qualified team of doctors, midwives and nurses.

Dear expectant mothers,
Thank you for choosing to have your baby in our maternity hospital. Your trust binds us and we firmly believe that you will leave us satisfied after the birth.
As part of the simplification and overall improvement of services for you, we decided on 5.4.2022 April 2022 to permanently cancel the necessity of the so-called birth registration. The purpose of the registration was an effort to plan, not to overfill the bed capacity of the clinic, and to maintain the quality and comfort of all mothers both during childbirth in the delivery room and during their stay in the inpatient ward after childbirth. In November XNUMX, we increased the number of beds for mothers in the postpartum ward, including additional beds in the so-called superior rooms. The new capacity is dimensioned in such a way that there is no longer a threat of a lack of places for you and your children.
Dear mum,
Thank you for your trust, we appreciate you choosing our maternity hospital. We would like to provide you with some basic information in this way.
The gynecology and obstetrics clinic is a highly specialized workplace. Thanks to its professional quality, it provides a wide range of health care in both common and very complicated cases. The Neonatal Department with an intensive care and resuscitation unit is an integral part of the Perinatology Center of the clinic. The clinic provides teaching for students of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine of the Charles University and medical schools, and also participates in the postgraduate education of doctors. Therefore, we want to warn you in advance of the possible presence of these persons (always only with your consent).
ORIENTATION
Prenatal clinic is located on the 5th floor, elevators A.
The delivery room is located on the 5th floor, elevators A.
The segregation department is located on the 5th floor, elevators B.
PREGNANCY
Ordering an ultrasound examination
If your doctor requires an ultrasound screening at our workplace, it is necessary to order in time. Ideally about 6 weeks in advance, on the phone number 224 434 269, between 13 and 15 p.m..
Ordering to a prenatal clinic
Your gynecologist will take care of you until about the 36th week of pregnancy. He can then send you to our clinic for further checks. In this case, order a pregnancy clinic as soon as possible after the last visit.
If your doctor decides to take care of you until delivery, we ask that you make a one-time appointment with us at the 36th week of pregnancy. During it, we will write documentation, take anamnesis, give informed consents, provide basic information about the stay in the delivery room and childbirth. You can also discuss your birth wishes.
Order prenatal counseling by phone at 224 434 272 or 702 156 396 on working days, between 13pm and 15pm.
Take with you: proof of identity, insured person's card, pregnancy card, urine sample, original or copy of laboratory examination of blood group and Rh factor and result of ultrasound examination from the first trimester (11th - 13th week of pregnancy).
Always report to the file cabinet upon arrival.
Informative meetings for childbirth
We invite candidates from the ranks of future mothers to informative meetings of three types, which will acquaint them with our maternity hospital and allow them to get a more accurate idea of the course of childbirth and hospitalization on the puerperium.

The mother-to-be and her partner are familiarized with the premises and operation of the delivery room as well as with the course of the birth itself, including the presence of an escort or the possibility of pain relief, through a video recording. The course is taught by midwives, whom you can meet in the delivery room. The meeting also serves to establish personal relationships between the mother and health professionals. 3. Breastfeeding
We offer it to all mothers-to-be who want to get information and practical advice on breastfeeding. It is advisable to plan your participation shortly before the birth, we recommend after the first visit to the prenatal clinic. We will focus on the benefits of long-term breastfeeding for both the mother and the child, on breast care, the correct suction and ejection technique. We will introduce you to the possible positions that can be taken while breastfeeding, we will talk about the optimal nutrition of a breastfeeding woman, including preparations that support milk production. We will discuss the most common problems that can accompany breastfeeding and how to deal with them. The course is led by an erudite lactation consultant, whom you will meet in the puerperium department after the birth. It is necessary to book an appointment in advance, in the prenatal clinic, in person or by phone at 224 434 272 or 702 156 396 on weekdays between 13 and 15 p.m. The participants' meeting is always at 16 p.m at elevators D, 5th floor. You can store your personal belongings in lockers. For security reasons, do not bring large amounts of money, jewelry, valuables with you to the hospital. If you have such things with you, we recommend storing them in the central safe of the Independent Department of Data Processing and Fees Methodology (ground floor, entrance hall). Providing information about you or your child by phone is governed by very strict rules in order to protect sensitive personal data. You can choose a password that you enter in the Hospitalization Consent form and share it with your loved ones. Medical personnel may only provide information if the caller knows this password.
Delivery room
The delivery room is located on the 5th floor, elevators A. When you arrive at the delivery, first pick up your card from the file. If you arrive outside the main working hours and the entrance from elevators A to the ambulance is already closed, use the marked bell. You will be received by a doctor and a midwife in the delivery room. After each examination, you will be informed how the birth process is going. One adult can accompany you. Your escort will be instructed on how to behave in the delivery room and what rules must be followed. If your birth is in its infancy, you can be placed in a waiting room. It is a quadruple, so there is no possibility of a permanent presence of an escort. If the birth is running, you will be placed in a separate delivery room with its own bathroom and the complete equipment needed to treat the baby. The basic preparation for childbirth also includes an enema or a partial shave of the birth canal, but we respect if you refuse these actions. To facilitate the birth, relaxation aids and techniques are available to you (mat, gymnastic ball, delivery chair, shower, aroma lamp). Painkillers, including epidural analgesia and tomato gas inhalation (both free), are always available.
The actual birth usually takes place in the delivery bed, it is led by a doctor together with a midwife. Dam cutting is not a flat-rate measure at our clinic, we only perform it in indicated cases. According to the current situation and your needs, we respect your birth plan. However, we recommend that you consult his individual points with a doctor in advance, ideally when visiting a pregnancy clinic.
If you and the baby are in good condition after birth, and if you are interested, we perform bonding. Please note that the permanent condition of bonding is the permanent presence of a third person in the delivery room (escort). Two hours after the birth, you and your baby will be transferred to the puerperium ward.
The mother's escort does not have access to the operating room for caesarean sections, but she can watch the operation from the anteroom and can be present during the child's first treatment.
SIXTH SUNDAY
Midwives (blue uniforms) and nurses (white uniforms) will take care of you at the sextuplet ward. They will give you complete information about the sixth week, especially about the importance of strict adherence to hygiene principles, nutrition and drinking regime. Baby nurses will teach you how to properly and safely care for newborns. An experienced lactation consultant will also be at your disposal on the sixth week, who will help you successfully start and manage breastfeeding.
The maternity ward is fully equipped with roaming-in bed rooms. The mother always has the child with her, if she feels tired, the children's nurses will help with the care. Standard rooms are double rooms and each two have shared bathroom facilities. You can also choose a superior room in which your companion can also stay with you. The price of this room is 2900 CZK/day. If you decide to use this option, inform the midwife when you are admitted to the delivery room. All rooms have a telephone (landline), the nurse will tell you the telephone number.
The length of hospitalization is governed by your and the child's state of health. In the case of uncomplicated spontaneous delivery it is 3-4 days, in the case of a caesarean section 4-6 days.
Visits
- Daily, 14 – 19 p.m.
- We ask that no more than 2 people per room at the same time, the bedside visit must not disrupt the treatment regimen of the other patient.
- If there are a large number of people, use the day room (dining room) for a visit.
- For hygienic reasons, it is not permissible for visitors to sit or lie on beds.
- It is forbidden to bring flowers to the gynecology and obstetrics departments.
- Toilets for visitors are located in the corridor, near elevators A and B, visitors cannot use the toilets in the patients' rooms.
Release
You will only be released if you and your child are fine. You only vacate the bed just before going home. Dismissal takes place daily, roughly between 10 - 11 a.m. You will be informed in advance by the doctor. You will receive two discharge reports, one about the course of your hospitalization, the other about the child.
Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you.
The University Hospital in Motol provides the person designated by the mother with the opportunity to participate in the birth under the following conditions:
- The mother agrees in writing to the presence of an escort during the birth. The mother has the right to withdraw her consent at any time during the birth.
- Accompanying the mother is one person designated by the mother.
- The escort is informed about the rules of behavior in the delivery room, their rights and obligations according to the operating and hygiene regulations of the maternity workplace and agrees to comply with them. The range of information required to enable access to the delivery room is determined by the maternity doctor.
- The escort is obliged to follow the instructions of the medical staff in the delivery room.
Upon receipt of the mother with an escort to the delivery room, a separate lockable locker is reserved in the locker room for storing personal belongings. We recommend that you do not leave valuables or sums of money here (possibility of locking in the delivery room).
For hygienic reasons, the accompanying woman will change into disposable hospital clothes and will be provided with shoes to move around the delivery room (or bring her own slippers). Smoking and consumption of alcoholic beverages are prohibited in the delivery room. A toilet for companions is available in the delivery room. The WC intended for those present in the waiting room is in the ambulance (key on request from the midwife). It is possible to use a mobile phone in the delivery room or in the corridor. Accompanying the mother in the delivery room must not endanger her own health or that of other persons and must not damage the property of the FN in Motola. The staff of the delivery room has the right not to admit or expel a person if he or she is under the influence of alcohol, addictive substances or in case of conflicting inappropriate behavior.
After receiving the mother, the midwife acquaints the escort with the rules of movement in the delivery room and draws attention to the places to which the escort is prohibited for hygienic and ethical reasons (especially the operating room tract). Possible leaving the delivery room must be arranged with a midwife.
With the consent of the doctor who is conducting the birth, it is allowed to photograph the mother from the waist up. Photographing a newborn baby is possible by arrangement with a neonatologist. Photographing staff is not allowed.
The mother's escort must not interfere with the provision of health services and the actual course of childbirth. We ask that the mother's escort respect the privacy of the other mothers in the delivery room. Accompanied by a mother is obliged to follow the recommendations of a doctor and a midwife.
Superior accommodation
FN Motol can provide above-standard accommodation at the request of the patient and within capacity possibilities. Information on the conditions of over-standard accommodation will be obtained by the patient when she makes an appointment for hospitalization at the relevant clinic. Binding reservations for superior rooms in advance are not possible due to their limited number. Accommodation in an above-standard bed room does not entitle you to the provision of above-standard medical services.
At the Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic, classic single rooms (high-risk pregnancy department, post-operative department) and single rooms with the possibility of accommodating a companion (prepartum department) and superior rooms are available. All have their own bathroom and are equipped with an electric reclining bed, color TV with remote control, fridge and kettle. Internet connection is also included in the price.
For accommodation in an above-standard room, the patient pays:
- for a single room in the high-risk pregnancy ward and the post-operative ward 1 500 $ for each completed accommodation day
- for a single room with the possibility of accommodation for a companion in the maternity ward 2 900 $ for each completed accommodation day
Prices are valid from 1
Accommodation day means occupancy and use of the room for at least 8 hours. For shorter stays, the patient pays 50% of the price.

Characteristic
The obstetric part of the clinic has an annual capacity for about 3 births.
Based on the decision of the Ministry of Health, the Perinatology Center was established within the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics, Motol University Hospital. The perinatology center is a workplace providing at the highest level comprehensive care for the most serious conditions occurring during pregnancy, childbirth and the puerperium, both in the mother and in the fetus and newborn. In the first place, these are critical life-threatening conditions of the mother or fetus (preeclampsia, heart disease, other serious maternal diseases accompanying pregnancy, premature births, etc.). The Motol University Hospital Perinatology Center is the only center in the Czech Republic that provides comprehensive care for newborns with congenital malformations.
The center consists of the following closely cooperating workplaces:
- Fetal Medicine Center - Equipped with two state-of-the-art ultrasound devices
- Preconception counseling and counseling for women's infertility.
- Prenatal counseling for high-risk pregnancies and specialized counseling for diabetics and women with heart disease.
- Prenatal intensive care unit
- Department of High - Risk Pregnancy

In the delivery room, we have five separate delivery rooms with complete facilities for the mother, attendants and newborns. Each of the rooms has its own bathroom (shower, toilet), one also has a bathtub. Delivery rooms are equipped with modern monitoring technology for mother and fetus. All relaxation aids are available to parents, such as positioning balls, showers, a birthing stool or a mat. Mothers also like to use the option of dimmed lighting and pleasant relaxing music.
Physiological newborns are treated directly in the delivery room and placed on an open, heated bed. We try to quickly establish contact between the newborn and the mother by applying it to the breast in time. Postpartum bonding is a common standard, both after a spontaneous birth and in the case of a caesarean section.
In the delivery room, there is also a so-called waiting room with four beds, where the mother can spend the immediate antenatal period before the start of regular labor.
For serious conditions threatening the mother or the fetus, the Prenatal Intensive Care Unit operates in the delivery room. Part of the delivery room is also an operating room reserved for dealing with acute conditions during childbirth.
We monitor births according to their course, temporarily for physiological births, and continuously for signs of risk or developing pathology. A 24-hour service of experienced obstetricians, assistants and neonatologists is provided. The clinic also includes an intensive workplace for newborns and links to specialized children's clinics with the possibility of the most scholarly management of all pathological conditions of mother and child, both detected in advance and suddenly arising.
During childbirth, we have the option of administering epidural analgesia if there is no medical contraindication, as part of standard care at no extra charge. The obstetrician decides on the administration of epidural anesthesia in agreement with the mother. Also in operative births, especially caesarean section, we usually choose the method of local anesthesia.
Our priority is to strive for maximum cooperation with the mother. We try to respect her requirements, as long as they do not conflict with recommended medical procedures. We require the consent of the mother for each act. Even though we are a teaching workplace, we strive for maximum intimacy and privacy in the given conditions. The participation of other persons in childbirth, such as medical students or medical students, is subject to the mother's consent.

At FN Motol, sponsorship is regulated by a directive which, in order to ensure a uniform procedure for accepting financial and in-kind donations, lays down rules. For both financial and in-kind donations, the financial value that is the subject of the donation is decisive. For donations not exceeding the value of CZK 5, it is not necessary to draw up a donation contract, only to follow the established principles. However, if the donor is interested, it is possible to conclude a contract in these cases as well.
In the case of donations in excess of CZK 5, the directive stipulates that only the forms prepared by the legal department of the Motol University Hospital be used. Only in very exceptional cases is it possible to conclude a donation contract, the text of which was prepared by the donor.
Financial and in-kind donations are provided to individual departments, and the donor always determines which department will receive these donations. Most of them are computer technology, medical devices and aids, non-medical technology, etc.
If it is a financial gift, the amounts are collected in the accounts of individual departments - gift accounts. It has the option to purchase, after approval by the LPP deputy, goods or services. Goods and services must always be related to the activities of the department, such as retrofitting patient rooms or making investments within the department's activities, etc. The assessment of the purchase is always within the competence of the designated deputy.
The financial gift can be remitted by postal order of the Motol University Hospital or by bank transfer to the account: 50008-17937051 / 0710, the variable symbol is the gift account number.
