Dear Parents,
if the expected length of your child's stay in the hospital is longer than one week, or if they are repeated stays, your child will be taught at the Special Primary School at the Motol University Hospital during the hospitalization. The inclusion in the teaching and the extent of the workload of the school work is determined by the attending physician. In the hospital school, if necessary, we will lend students textbooks and some aids. However, due to the high number of pupils taught and the diversity of textbooks, it is appropriate for children to have their own textbooks, workbooks and school supplies, preferably in a hospital. In the interest of a smooth follow-up to the work of the tribal school, it is good if the child (especially younger school-age pupils) also has information about the last subject.
After discharge from the hospital, our school sends a report on teaching and grading for the past period to the child's main school. According to the decree of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports, a pupil who is taught at the hospital at the time of illness and is classified there is not tested after returning to his / her home school and the school takes over the classification for the given period from the hospital school.
If the hospitalization takes place at the end of the first half of the year and at the end of the school year for six weeks or more, the hospital school sends a classification proposal to the main school. During a three-month and longer stay, our school can also issue a certificate to the student in agreement with the tribal school.
In the event of your child's long-term absence from school while he is in home care, we would like to draw your attention to the possibility of asking the tribal school for his individual tuition.
Act No. 561/2004 Coll., On pre-school, primary, secondary, higher vocational and other education (School Act):
A pupil who is unable to attend school due to his / her state of health and has been released from this obligation by the school principal and is in home care, the principal of the tribal school will provide individual tuition to the necessary extent.
The student's representative is obliged to create conditions for individual teaching. If the school does not have legal personality, individual tuition will be provided by the relevant school authority.
Kindergarten teachers take care of children from 2 to 7 years of age with the same content as in other kindergartens.

History of the school
The school at the Motol University Hospital was founded on 1.1.1950 January 2 at the First Children's Clinic in Prague 1970. Its establishment was preceded by long meetings of Professor MUDr. Swiss with school authorities. It was the first facility of its kind in our country, and very soon other schools were established along the lines of the country. Since then, the school has undergone a long development - from moving to a new building in Motol in XNUMX to finding the most appropriate proportions between educational and educational psychotherapeutic activities. It turned out that teaching sick children has a positive effect on their health. The professor said at the time: "Teaching sick children is the best way to therapy."
Present
At present, the school provides education for children in individual departments I and II. Children's clinics at the Motol University Hospital. Our school's teachers teach children with internal, chronic, mental, physical, hearing and visual impairments, as well as children with developmental disabilities. Therefore, it is possible to describe our school as integrated, providing comprehensive educational care for all these groups. In addition to primary and special school, it also includes a kindergarten, a school club and a school club. Children from two to fifteen years of age are educated here.
The teaching staff consists of 22 special educators and educators who take care of children not only at the bedside, but also in playrooms and special classes. All teachers continue their education, every year they participate in accredited seminars, training in new forms of teaching programs and other pedagogical activities.
The main effort of the entire teaching staff is to ensure teaching in the hospital environment so that all children can return to their school after the end of treatment and participate in teaching without any problems. However, our goal is not only teaching, but also taking care of the child's soul and making the stay in the hospital more pleasant.

Efforts to optimize school work with appropriate motivation, non-overburdening and individual approach.
Teaching takes place according to the pupil's health individually or in small groups, in special classes, where the number of pupils does not exceed eight or in the playroom, in the child's room, when his current health does not allow teaching in the playroom, in a room with insulation, right at the bedside , if the medical condition precludes contact with other children.
The special kindergarten at the hospital works with children aged 2-7 years. There are 3 kindergarten teachers. The priority goal is to create conditions for children that are most suitable for adaptation to the hospital environment, for natural personal development and successful educational activities for each of them, in accordance with the conditions of the hospital.
Quality pedagogical work is a basic prerequisite for a satisfied return to the primary environment of the family and the tribal school institution.
The school club and the school club at the hospital are out-of-school school facilities. There are currently 2 educators working with children aged 6-12. Depending on the situation in the ward, older children are also involved in the activities, both pupils in primary schools, special schools and pupils in auxiliary schools.
The activities of the school group and the school club are mainly focused on the following:
- creative
- art
- literary
- dramatic
Children prefer to participate in fun and didactic games, competitions and ideas for practical activities. Some of them then take part in art and literary competitions and projects.
Due to the specific health problems of children, the priority goal of educators is that children manage hospitalization and treatment procedures associated with it without any serious mental problems and can happily return to their tribal schools among their friends.
