Lenka SkopováWhen did you decide to become a nurse and who or what gave you the idea?
In elementary school, when choosing a profession. For a long time I chose a high school from the brochure, but nothing was interesting and original enough. So my parents chose a good deal for me. But I think they already regretted it in the first year. When I started knotting them on the sheets at home, I folded the handkerchiefs into 10 x 10 squares. They had to hold me every moment while I practiced bandaging techniques and blood draws. In the second year, everyone had already rested, practice in the hospital began.

Do you remember your first working day at FNM?
Of course yes. It was September 1, 9, a former colleague brought me. I have it in front of my eyes like today. I remember her leading me through the corridors and I was afraid that I would never find my way out again. Colleagues in the department warmly welcomed me, made me coffee, showed me everything, I felt great. And I am very glad that they are still here with me today.

You work at the Department of Pediatric and Adult Orthopedics and Traumatology of the 2nd Faculty of Medicine of the UK and Motol Medical University. What brought you to this field?
Continuous practice in the third year. They assigned me to orthopedics. The nurses on the ward were very nice. Even though at first I spent almost the entire shift preparing material, vacuuming the RD, and they only occasionally let me see patients. But in a few days I was ready for my first dressing - how proud I was of myself. And thanks to the team of orthopedic nurses at Bulovka, I knew that this is what I wanted to do.

Lenka SkopováWhat is your typical working day like at the orthopedic clinic?
In the morning, I will listen to the presentation of the service of my colleagues, find out the news and prepare for the visit. After the visit, it's already starting to sizzle. Discharge, income, arranging subsequent rehabilitation and aftercare. Plus a lot of handling phone calls, inquiries and paperwork. Ordering material, checking the operation of the department, etc., helping colleagues if needed. At noon, I find that my fluid intake and output are at 0. So I try to calm my body down with lunch and add fluids. I continue in this mode in the afternoon. If you have a good team, everything can be managed without any damage.

What qualities and prerequisites do you think a person who decides to work in healthcare should have?
He should definitely be communicative, empathetic, creative, have critical thinking, be able to work with his own emotions, be reliable and consistent. Should be a team player and able to listen.

Lenka SkopováCan you remember a patient who pleased or amused you the most?
There are a lot of those people, I am only pleased that the patient thanks you and says that he was happy and satisfied with us. Basically, every day you come across a patient with a sense of humor, and when you have three in the room, it's really great. And usually all it takes is a small quip or an innocent double-entendre, and lo and behold, the fun starts right away.

How do you relax, what is the best rest for you?
When we go to DAB with our 30 kg dog for dog sports and classical training. There is a great group of positive people, you immediately relax, great relaxation. That's why I go with them even on long weekends. It's very positively charged. And then of course fishing, of course we take our canine friend with us. Such sitting in nature by the water is great relaxation. Well, if they don't take the fish, I always pull out a book and I'm fine. I still have another way to relax, and that is at the winter stadium, when I go to cheer on my son and his team at a hockey game. In my free time, I like to watch modern fairy tales: Madagascar, Shrek, On a thread, Ice Kingdom, etc.

What was your biggest childhood dream?
I always wanted a big dog because I wanted to be the best detective and with him to find the crimes that couldn't be solved.

Lenka SkopováDo you have a guaranteed recipe for stress management?
We have a good team, so we can share the pressure and stress, so a heavy workload can be handled without harm.

When was the last time you laughed heartily?
Basically almost every day. I like humor, cheerful people, I like to be surrounded by them. So laughter is like a drug for me, basically my daily bread.

Is there someone who is your inspiration in life?
Every good person. I believe in people, in goodness. I am an eternal optimist.
