When did you decide to become a nurse and who or what gave you this idea?
I was quite clear! I will go to hotel school because one day I will have a cafe. At that time, my friend and I helped prepare weddings, celebrations and other social events at my aunt's house. But before applying to high school, I started taking care of the child of a lady from the village who had health complications after giving birth. Daily contact with the child filled me and suddenly it dawned on me. I want to be a children's nurse! During my studies, I visited an infant institution, where I spent my free time. I also remember that I had a period when I wanted to leave school. Now I'm thankful it didn't happen.

JANA ZJÍCOVADo you remember your first working day at FNM?
Six of our classmates came to Prague. We still remember the first days of our working careers. After each service we had a meeting and discussed everything. So I also remember their first days in Motola. I first joined the Transplantation Department III. surgical clinic, where I spent half a year on initial practice. I would probably summarize my first days at Motola in a short and concise sentence - I couldn't have started better! The adaptation period was a big test for me. The days were not always rosy. But under the guidance of a great trainer and great friends, even the bad will turn into good over time.

You work in the Department of Central Operating Rooms for Adults. What brought you to this field?
I came into contact with the hall several times during my life. The first meeting was in childhood. I remember wanting to know what was in all the rooms and who were all the people around. Maybe not all my questions were answered then, so that's why I'm here... While looking for a job on the Internet, I first found the Transplantation Department, but one of my friends "blew" the job away. Next, the operating room got my attention, but we were afraid that I didn't have enough experience for it. Curiosity was stronger, however, and I finally sent my resume. In a few minutes I received an answer asking me to come for an interview. It took a lot of learning and patience before I got used to the environment. I thank the station nurse and my colleagues for showing me what a beautiful job it is. Now I hope that I too will be able to pass on the work with the love with which it was given to me.

JANA ZJÍCOVAWhat is your typical working day like at COS?
During morning coffee and breakfast, we will look at the operating program, from which we can read what kind of music will be played in the hall. Our team in the operating room consists of the main operator, two assistants and two nurses (that's us). One of them is the instrument box, which is right next to the operating table and is such a "note" for the operator. The task of the instrument operator is to anticipate and either on call or silently place the instrument in the operator's hand. The circulating nurse and paramedic arrange suitable conditions for the operating group. Every sheet music has a key at the beginning - anesthesia - which is indispensable for us. It is important that everyone present in the hall harmonizes and complements each other. Performances (operating performances) in our theaters are sometimes shorter, sometimes longer. There is usually space for coffee, lunch or sweets between performances. I am grateful to be a part of the sometimes masterful miracles of our doctors.

What qualities and prerequisites do you think a person who decides to work in the healthcare sector should have?
Humility! It is a field in which, when a person says that nothing can surprise him anymore, then suddenly, lo and behold, everything is different. Patience, reliability and the human soul, because it has enormous power.

Do you remember any patient who pleased or amused you the most?
I often remember. I also remember a lot of patients from my student years. Today, as an instrument technician, I unfortunately only come into contact with the patient before general anesthesia, as part of the safety nursing procedure. If there is space, I like to chat with patients. We are always HAPPY when a patient has an uncomplicated postoperative course and can go home soon.

JANA ZJÍCOVAHow do you relax, what do you think is the best rest?
Nature, yoga, music, calligraphy, wellness, wandering around cafes and good conversation.

What was your biggest childhood dream?
Have dolphins in the bathroom and swim with them. Also to have a cafe with a friend and we are currently adding a flower shop to that. I still believe in this dream.

Do you have a guaranteed recipe for stress management?
Until recently, chocolate-ice cream-chocolate. Today I'm going to take a chocolate ice cream and go out. I have great friends and family, when we have any ailments or joys, we share them. Good relationships keep me going even in the most critical times. I also try to distract myself with activities that I enjoy, so sometimes I go from stress to eustress.

When was the last time you laughed heartily?
A lot of my friends have kids. Not only a personal meeting with them guarantees a hearty laugh, often tears of joy in photos and videos as well. My three-year-old nephew and I once again organize tea parties, where we also don't skimp on the laughs.

Is there anyone who is life inspiration for you?
Everyone is an inspiration to me. I like it when a person does something with a really pure intention and succeeds. I like to share joy, and that's how you move on.
