About the center

At the initiative of the World Health Organization (WHO), the National Coordination Center for Injury Prevention, Violence and Child Safety (NCC) was established in 2011. The NKC is sponsored by the University Hospital in Motol, as a member of the WHO International Network of Healthy Hospitals. The NCC's activities are aimed at establishing international and regional strategies, recommendations and action plans to reduce child mortality and morbidity. The NCC also participates in educational and research activities.

At present, the NCC consists of three separate workplaces:

  • Center for Accident Prevention, Charles University, 2nd Faculty of Medicine and University Hospital in Motol at the Institute of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Charles University, 2nd Faculty of Medicine (CÚP): CÚP designs schools within the International Safe School program.
  • Department of Pediatric Surgery, Orthopedics and Traumatology, University Hospital in Brno (KDCHOT): The activities are focused primarily on the issue of pediatric trauma, the system of accident data collection and analysis, which can be used to evaluate the effectiveness and quality of health care or prevention activities.
  • Department of Health, Children and Youth, 3rd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University (ÚZDM): The activities of the institute are focused on issues of public health and social pediatrics. The department includes a counseling center for students.
