Comprehensive pharmaceutical care for the health and well-being of patients: FN Motol opens a new dispensing department of the Hospital Pharmacy

The hospital pharmacy of the Faculty Hospital in Motol today opened a new drug dispensing department in the atrium of the directorate building, very close to the entrance to metro station A. This new workplace is the largest pharmacy facility for the public in the Motol hospital and, in addition to the modern interior, will also offer patients expert advice or consultations in the field of pharmacotherapy, nutritional preparations and other medical products.

In 2022, more than 1,25 million medicines, prescribed for 330 thousand prescriptions, were dispensed by the Motolsk Hospital Pharmacy. With increasing demands, it was necessary to create a workplace offering sufficient storage facilities with controlled and monitored conditions for keeping an ever-expanding portfolio of medicines.

"The new department will allow us to concentrate the dispensing of highly innovative so-called center drugs, the use of which is tied to highly specialized centers, of which the Motol hospital has a number within many specialties (oncology, neurology, pediatrics...). Due to reimbursement mechanisms, these drugs are not available in other pharmacies, and the need to ensure the possibility of professional advice and safe dispensing of these drugs to patients was one of the main reasons for building a new workplace." explains PharmDr. Petr Horák, head pharmacist of the Hospital Pharmacy.

The new department also includes a separate consultation room, which allows patients, after prior ordering, to have a more thorough analysis and consultation of their pharmacotherapy, which may often be indicated by various doctors or as part of self-medication, identification of possible drug problems, interactions, advice on the correct use of drugs, lifestyle etc.

"The new drug dispensing department will bring a much-needed increase in the capacity of our pharmacy and greater comfort for patients. The centralization of the handling of center drugs will not only bring greater efficiency and safety for the patient, but will also help reduce the workload of doctors and nurses in specialist outpatient clinics." concludes JUDr. Ing. Miloslav Ludvík, MBA, director of the University Hospital in Motol.

The University Hospital in Motola is the largest medical facility in the Czech Republic and one of the largest in Europe. It is also the main teaching base for students of the 2nd Faculty of Arts of the UK and also houses some workplaces of the 1st Faculty of Arts of the UK. FN Motol provides basic, specialized and super-specialized health care and services in medical fields in the form of outpatient and inpatient care for children, adults and seniors. Structurally, it consists of two interconnected monoblocks (children's and adult parts) and several separate pavilions. In FN Motol, more than one million patients are treated annually in 56 clinics.
