Endocrinology represents one of the clinic's four core programs.
The tradition of performances at the III. the surgical clinic dates back to the 80s.
The endocrine surgery group in the thoracic surgery department centralizes parathyroid surgery
antibodies for primary hyperparathyroidism with special reference to reoperations. As part of the endocrine surgery program, thyroid operations are performed for both benign and malignant diagnoses, surgical approaches from neck incisions, sternotomy, mediastinoscopy, thoracotomy and videothoracoscopy.
Special attention is paid to the issue of operative thyroid gland with retrosternal localization.
In terms of the number of procedures per year for primary hyperparathyroidism, we rank at the level of top European workplaces. This fact reflects the long-term support of the cooperating endocrinology, internal medicine and nuclear medicine departments.
In the last five years, the number of procedures for primary hyperparathyroidism has been stable (170-220 procedures). Despite the COVID 19 pandemic in recent years, we have achieved the same number of performances.
The basic quality indicator is persistent hypercalcemia after surgery for primary hyperparathyroidism.
During operations, we use the possibility of intraoperative neuromonitoring, intraoperative determination of intact parathyroid hormone and, in recent years, the possibility of genetic examination.
Since 2011, a permanent effort to expand cooperation not only with outpatient endocrinologists has been the organization of joint seminars in the form of meetings with other participating specialists - nuclear medicine doctors. In 2021, the 10th annual meeting was held, which is both a thank you for this cooperation and a mutual confrontation of the results that benefit our joint patients.
