One of the clinic's programs is a program for the reconstruction of the abdominal wall, within which in cooperation with others
departments, we care for patients with various types of hernias, from inguinal to extensive scar hernias and parastomal hernias.
We emphasize correct diagnosis, preoperative preparation and the choice of modern surgical procedures, as well as the minimization of postoperative complications. Patients have access to a prehabilitation program at the FNM Physical Education Clinic, for most of them we monitor the quality of life after the procedure and, as the only one in the Czech Republic, we enter our results into the transparent European hernia database.
As part of the program, we deal with complications of hernia operations not only in the sense of recurrence, but also chronic postoperative pain. Panniculectomy or other skin resections, extraction of previous prosthetic materials, and neurectomy in case of chronic pain are often part of a series of larger reconstructions.
Our doctors regularly lecture at national and international herniological conferences and publish in peer-reviewed impact journals. We collaborate on the creation of European standards for the treatment of various types of hernias, we are the creators of an online educational program in this field used by doctors all over the world, and we are the first in the Czech Republic to hold European certification for abdominal wall reconstruction. Our doctors are members of the executive board of the European Hernia Society and holders of several research grants focused on various aspects of hernia treatment.
